Tasked with designing a Co-Housing community for a Philadelphia neighborhood, my concept revolves around natural materials, storm water management, and a natural neighborhood character.
The Common House includes spaces for group entertainment and education, as well as office space and a guest apartment.
The main space of the Common House revolves around a double-sided fireplace that connects the rest of the neighborhood and surroundings with the interior spaces.
As part of a larger master plan for Drexel University, we were tasked with outlining and designing a building that we felt was necessary on campus. My addition was a Study Annex that provides space for individual, small and large group instruction as well as a 24-hour cafe for students to recharge.
The main curtain wall of the Study Annex provides views to a main pedestrian artery of campus, connecting the students working within to the lively campus life.
The main entrance area showcases a broad main stair and connects to a cafe nearby as well as the exterior seating area.
The wall section of the main curtain wall was an integral drawing to clearly explain the detailing of the building.
Each floor of the Study Annex provides study areas abutting the main curtain wall and offering clear views through the campus residential areas.
As part of an Independent Study with a fellow peer, we visited and researched the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece by Bernard Tschumi. Along with an extensive report, we built a scale model using a laser cutter, plexi glass, and museum board.
During the Summer 2011 Study Abroad Tour to Rome, we learned to sketch historic buildings and their surroundings. Using only black ink, I captured the layered architecture of the beautiful Santa Sabina church.
During a trip to Cape May, NJ, I happened upon a small garage sale with a mirror leaning against a large bag. Kneeling down, I captured the arrangement in front of me as well as the house across the street using a Canon DSLR.
Using a glamour photo my grandmother had taken for my grandfather during WWII, I enlarged the wallet size picture as I re-sketched a family treasure.
